Worrying over nothing?

Hi, I have not felt very well for the last 10 days.Ive had upper stomach pains which radiate to my upper back, bloatedness, loss of appetite and feel sick, especially after eating. My stomach is particularly sore during the night.

  1. Could this just be a stomach bug? Am I worrying over nothing? My dad died 5 years ago from pancreatic cancer and I'm a little bit concerned .
  • Hi S-B and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you have symptoms that are causing you concern.

We cannot say what the cause of your symptoms might be, only a doctor can assess you can tell.

Most of the time there is a straightforward medical explanation ,not necessarily cancer, but it makes sense to get checked out for peace of mind.

I am sorry to learn that your father passed away from pancreatic cancer.

When cancer is in the family, people often assume that this greatly increases their risk of developing it, but this isn't necessarily so. Although the genes we inherit may influence our risk, other things do as well

You may like to read the Family history of pancreatic cancer on the Pancreatic UK website.

I hope you know more soon and everything is ok.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards
