Secondary Liver Cancer - treatment has helped reduce dad's cancer but what will happen next?

Hi, my Dad has Secondary Liver Cancer spread from his Bowel. He has had 6 cycles of chemo and the MRI and CT scan have shown a reduction in the size - the Oncologist and surgeons are meeting next week to discuss the way forward. Has anyone been in this position and what may the way forward be? Thank you in advance.

  • Hi xMRSEx and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis of metastatic bowel cancer and appreciate what a difficult time this must be for all the family.

There are various treatment options available for bowel cancer that has spread.

Unfortunately, it is difficult for me to say what the next steps will be as each treatment option is customized to the individual.

You may find it helpful to read our webpage on Treatment for Metastatic Bowel Cancer which discusses all the possible treatment options.

The doctor may advise no treatment for a little while to allow your dad to recuperate after his recent 6 sessions of chemotherapy.

I hope this information is useful.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
