Suspected peritoneal ca with mets

My Dad has oesophageal ca which he received RFA treatment for. We were under the impression all was going well and he only had to go for routine surveillance endocopies every 3 month. However, he was ill at the end of August and attended A&E and when they done a CT scan said they suspected peritoneal ca with mets. This was on Friday 29th August and biopsies have only just been took this week and they said could it be up to 2 week for the results which means he has waited 7 weeks for a confirmed diagnosis when the Faster Diagnosis Standard is 28 days! Is it worth raising a complaint over the time this is taking

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

I am so sorry this happened with your dad, and I appreciate that waiting for answers is incredibly hard.

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why the guidelines might not be reached at the moment, and the 28-day standard is only in England.

Hopefully, things will start moving at a pace once the biopsy results are back, but if you continue to remain concerned, do speak to someone in PALS at the hospital involved.

We have more information about cancer waiting times on our website, if helpful.

Take care, and if you want to talk anything through do call the helpline on 0808 800 4040. Lines are open Mon-Fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
