Radiotherapy Sessions

Can someone advise me if the pain I am feeling from the Lymph notes scar is to be expected? I only ask as the area of the breast cancer is on the opposite side to my Lymph node extraction but it is painful.  The radiotherapy is give on on both sides of my breast. The machine moves around me.  Also where my scar is from my breast cancer surgery after 3 sessions I am developing a small blister at the end of the scar?

Thank you

  • Hi Rosemary,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Mention the small blister to your care team next time you attend for radiotherapy. It is still early days in respect of your lymph node scarring. I found that this took a lot longer to heal than the scarring from my breast. Again, if you are worried about this, chat to your care team about it and I expect that they'll reassure you that this is normal at this stage. How many sessions of radiotherapy are you due to have? I hope that it all goes well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Rosemary12, and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are having treatment for breast cancer. This must not be easy.

It is not unusual to have ongoing pain or discomfort after breast cancer treatment. Most commonly caused by nerve damage, which can happen during surgery or when scars are formed. Also, as Jolamine has mentioned, it is worth mentioning to your specialist breast nurse (CNS) what you are experiencing, as they are familiar with your situation and can provide you with more reassurance. It might also be a good idea to show the blister on the scar to the radiotherapy team when you next go for your treatment.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to get back to us. if you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday freephone 0808 800 4040.
