I am sorry to hear about your dad. Without being involved in your dads care it is very difficult to comment about his situation and what the short and long term may look like. Every patient is so different in terms of their general health as well as the type, stage and extent of the cancer and any other factors that may affect their condition.
You are best to speak with the doctor or nurse looking after him to find out more. They are in a better position to comment on what you are likely to expect to come.
