Bone scan following breast cancer diagnosis

At the beginning of this year, 4 months before my routine breast screening mammogram - I was back and forth to my gp complaining about lower abdominal aches which were unusual and new. I had a bowel Poo test, B12 and a CA125 and all came back clear.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and have mentioned my concerns about right side pelvic bone pain and it was dismissed every time.

The surgeon and the oncologist stated that due to the size of my tumour 1.5cm / and the fact that I had micro metastasis in one lymph node that any pain was not connected to my breast cancer.

as the pain has not subsided they finally listened to me a few weeks ago and I had a radioactive bone scan just over a week ago.

has anyone else had this procedure? I’m really struggling with the wait time for results. Did you get news quickly or did the results take weeks?

I’m hoping that the more time that passes may be an indication that there’s nothing to worry about - I know I’m a stress head about this, but I can’t help worrying

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Scan results usually take a couple of weeks ( sometimes longer). I'm afraid I can't tell you how long you may have to wait as waiting times do vary in different NHS trusts depending on the hospitals workload and resources.

You have posted on the ask the nurses section of the forum but I see you are asking for other users experience of waiting for bone scan results. Anyone is welcome to reply on here but you may get more response from others who may be or have gone through similar by posting in a different section of the forum as well as here.

I know it’s easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. Also try and focus on what you can control right now by eating a good diet, getting enough rest, and doing some gentle activities that you enjoy.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind Regards,

    Celene
