Nipple pain / let down after biopsies 4 months ago

Hi, I was recalled after routine mammogram screening. Mammogram showed a small change in the right breast. I had 7 core needle biopsies taken, and the was recalled for further stereotactic biopsies. I did get a haematoma afterwards, but nothing unbearable, and it resolved within 6 weeks or so. I still have some tissue thickening in the area, which isn’t really a huge concern. However, I’m now starting with some really weird intermittent nipple pain, quite sharp in intense. I’m also getting the feeling of “let down” numerous times a day. It’s been going on for about 6 weeks, and  I’m not sure if this is normal after 2 lots of biopsies. I have 2 metal clips left insitu. How long should I leave it before I see someone about it? The biopsies showed fat necrosis only, and I’ve been discharged back to 3 yearly screening. Thanks in advance if anyone has advice, L

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry that you have been left with this discomfort since the breast biopsies.

It can take a while for the breast to calm down after these procedures due to the nerves and sensitive tissues of the breasts. Do take over-the-counter painkillers or use hot/cold packs if helpful.

If this continues, speak to your GP and explain what has happened since your biopsies.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
