Lump in reconstruction

Hi. I had breast  cancer  in 2010 and a mastectomy/immediate  reconstruction using lower tummy fat..had chemo and radio then tamoxifen for 5 years ..ive just found a tiny hard lump in the side of the reconstructed breast and have been referred to my local  breast clinic.  I'm so obviously  worried sick again .. I had a similar  lump in my other breast ages ago near the nipple which turned out to be fat  necrosis. This time it's at the side of the reconstructed breast. I assumed we was ro be seen with in 2 weeks of referal but my clinic just say they are quite busy and will contact me when they can so ive no idea even when my appointment will be to have this lump checked out..any advice thank you x

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I can appreciate your current concern. It is good to get anything new checked out, for peace of mind. It is important to keep an open mind on what it might be. Scar tissue and fatty lumps do emerge some time after previous surgery. Ageing and weight changes can also affect past surgery body areas. It isn't common for cancer to appear in breast reconstructed tissue.

I hope this helps, and that you get to find out more soon,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda

  • Thank  you for your reply and for trying to put my mind at ease I really do appreciate this. Obviously I guess its this horrible waiting game. I was referred to the breasr clinic on Sept 17th now to be told it csn be up to 5 or 6 works before I can have this lump checked out. That is a long time to wait and worry. The side of the breast is sore and aches a lot. Under the armpit it is also sore. Hopefully I will get seen sooner .thank you
