Suspected SCC

Hi my appointment with the dermatologist is at 8.45am today. I’ve not slept. Waited two weeks for my appointment and kept busy until now!!

I’ve been googling all night  silly I know but I am so nervous and anxious. The culprit that is suspected SCC is on the bottom of my left buttock slightly on the inside. It’s been there for a very long time but I’ve been so emb rassed and no way did I think anything of it. It gets extremely itchy and every 1-2 days it bleeds because I’ve scratched it so much. Hindsight (pardon the pun) is a great thing and I’m so disappoin d in myself that I didn’t go sooner!

I’m beside myself with worry and so anxious about my appointment.
can anyone tell me their experiences of their first appointments please. I think my stress is tenfold because of the nature of where it is and I’m embarrassed

I’m also emotionally drained from what seems like the longest two weeks of my life.

and now I’ve googled the worst case scenarios and I’m petrified! Any advice or comfort would be greatly appreciated!

thank you fir reading and I’ll post when I know more ️‍

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

You will probably have had your appointment now and know what to expect.

The British Association of Dermatologists have produced some information about Squamous cell carcinoma if that is what they suspect.

The doctor may have taken a biopsy or they may be arranging for you to have a biopsy. Every case is very different.

Do give the nurses a ring if you want to talk anything through.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
