Dressing Help - using chemotherapy cream on my face where possible BCC is. Can I put a dressing on that area?

I am on the waiting list to see a dermatologist for suspected BCC. I have had several BCCs before which were removed with surgery. My GP thinks I have another on my cheek. She has prescribed a chemotherapy cream whilst I am waiting for an appointment with dermatology. My question is, am I able to wear a dressing on the area? I have seen silicone dressings online. Is this something that is an option through this skin treatment? What would you recommend please?

Also, is it possible to only need the chemotherapy cream and avoid a surgery?

Thanks for any guidance.

  • Hello Laureneli, and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn that you may have another BCC.

Not being involved in your care, we cannot recommend dressings. Sometimes your doctor may advise putting on a waterproof dressing after applying the cream, or you can take advice from a pharmacist. It is best to check with your doctor first, rather than using your own, as they know your situation and may only recommend specific dressings.

It may be possible that the only treatment needed for BCC is chemotherapy cream; however, this will depend on how well the chemotherapy works, and this is something the dermatologist will clarify at your appointment.

I hope you can get an appointment soon.

  • Hi Laurenli,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I do hope that the cream works for you and that you won't need surgery. My hubby has had a number of these lesions removed too. The last one he had was also on his cheek. He applied the cream for a couple of months and his SCC has gone. We've been watching it closely for the past four  months and so far there's no sign of re-growth. The Dermatologist also used Cryosurgery to freeze a number of smaller lesions on his head. This seems to have worked with about 50% of the lesions.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
