Very high D Dimer

I was admitted to hospital with breathlessness palpitations and light headedness. They suspected a PE so did D Dimer which was 2063 which I was told was extremely high.

CT ruled out PE and now I have to have CT of abdomen and pelvis as they have said the high DDimer can indicate a malignancy.

i was fit and well until the symptoms began and now I am terrified I have a malignancy as my dad died of pancreatic cancer. I assume I must have cancer as all other reasons for raised d dimer have been ruled out.

    I am sorry that you are going through all this, but as nurses, we cannot give a medical opinion.

    Hopefully, once the doctors have done all their investigations, you will have a better idea of what is causing the raised D Dimers.

    Waiting for results is very difficult, particularly when you have lost a loved one. I hope you have support at this time.
