Blood in Urine

Hi my name is Leianne, I am 38 years old and for the past 2 months I have been experiencing blood in my urine. I have had numerous blood tests, urine tests and stool tests. Recently I have also had a CT scan for suspected kidney stones. Today was that scan, I was told there were no visible stone but my bladder lining was thicker than normal. I left A&E this afternoon with a course of antibiotics and advised to repeat my urine sample in a weeks time and if blood is still present that further testing would be required. I have experienced fatigue for a while now as well as increased urination frequency and urgency as well as nausea and headaches. I am terrified I could have cancer but want to act fast. I don’t feel as though I am being taken serious for the symptoms I am displaying and wanted to know what I can do to speed up the process for diagnosis so I just know either way. I am fed up of feeling unwell, I haven’t felt like myself for a while now and it is only getting worse. My mental health is struggling to cope with the health anxiety and I just really need some guidance for what my options are for my next steps. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you

  • Hello Leianne and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling anxious about your health.

Doctors have guidelines when patients present with symptoms. It sounds like you have had various tests and none of the tests came back showing whether you needed to have further tests. I would take the antibiotics knowing that if your symptoms haven't cleared up then the doctors will continue to investigate.

Worrying about health can be exhausting. You may find it helpful to look at the NHS information called Every Mind matters

It might have some techniques which might help get you through the next few weeks.

Taking exercise such as walking and concentrating on eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables and drinking 2-3 litres of water may also help your energy levels.

I do hope that you feel better soon.

    All the best,

    Catherine
