Growth found after sigmoidoscopy

Hi group

I was due a colonoscopy  last thursday  4th August  when I got there is didnt feel comfortable  with having it. I spoke to the guy doing procedure who was very kind and understanding about how I was feeling and we agreed a sigmoidoscopy  would be better at this stage due to rectal bleeding and no other symptoms .

The sigmoidoscopy  was very painless and easy to do however  they found 8 polyps which were removed there and then also a lesion (growth) quite large almost blocking so a sample (biopsy) was taken.

The guy said a colonoscopy  wouldnt have been able to be completed due to the growth

Results within 2 weeks, he did say there will be many tests and scan over the next few weeks

Im so scared incase it comes back worst case ...

  • HI there and thanks for getting in touch

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms and investigation you have had done. This of course must be an anxious time for you and I hope you also have the support of people around you.

Unfortunately until the biopsy results are back there is know way of knowing what this lesion is or what will need to happen next.

At times like this it is important to take things one step at a time as you find out more. Try and keep yourself busy and your mind on other things as you wait, this can be really helpful.

Once the results are in the team will go through these with you and what other tests or treatment may be needed.

Do get back in touch if you have further questions or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040 to talk things through. We're here weekdays 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best

    Take care

    Naomi
