If someone has pain that is not controlled, then we advise that they speak with their GP, or hospital consultant, (if they have one). Stronger painkillers will be available only via a prescription.
Sometimes, if someone has difficulty with pain control, then they are referred on to a community palliative care team, (if appropriate). These teams have specialist expertise in the control of different types of pain and can advise the patient and GP about this.
