Full body scan mentioned after change found in lung nodule. Are they looking to see if it has spread?

Hi,

Im really  confused /worrued at the moment.

I have a 3mm lung nodule which was spotted 4 April 2025 on my routine ct chest/abdomen/pelvis scan

I had colon cancer 2022 then it metasised to the  liver  2023 and had successful liver resection.

Been clear  since on my scans.

After this nodule  found I had another  scan 28th May..result  no change and they  decided  1 more scan for  August.

This one showed a subtle  change so they want to scan in November  to check again.

Im sure I heard the nurse saying  A full body  scan ??? If that  is so, why would  they do that type  of scan instead of the normal  chest/abdomen/pelvis??

Im worried now  if it is do they suspect  more spread...

Thank you for your input, my anxiety  levels  are hitting the roof

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I can appreciate your concern. A full body scan includes the chest, abdomen and pelvis. It is generally from the chin to the groin. It doesn't often include the brain (head) as well.

So, it is what you have had done previously. I wouldn't read too much into it at this point in time. Scans are often done in a similar way, and look at the same body areas, so that it is easier to compare them literally side to side if that makes sense.

Try not to worry if you can. Talk to your team if this is concerning you.

    I hope this helps,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

  • Hi Vanda

Thank you SO much for your reply.

Its just because  she said  full body and because  I have ptsd from all this, tiny things  are like mountains.

You've    percent  made me feel more relaxed about it...and now O dont feel the need to phone and check up which scan it is..which causes more stress.

    Once again..thank you
