2 different types of cancer - is it common for this to happen and am I at risk of receiving more bad news in the future?

Hi

I am nicki aged 51

In. 2022 I had a single mastectomy due to having DCIS breast cancer thankfully I didn't need any treatment and managed to get back to normal....then bad news hit again in oct24 I had early stage lung cancer which resulted in having a lobectomy.. half of my left lung removed and again no treatment was needed .I am back working and living my life as best I can but my mind wonders on is it common to get 2 different type of cancer that are not related and am I at risk to keep receiving bad news ...

  • Hi Nikki and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It is unfortunate that you have been diagnosed with two primary cancers but it is encouraging that they were both diagnosed at an early stage.

I can't predict what will happen in the future but hopefully as they have been identified at an early stage and they have been treated there is a good chance that they will not come back.

Trying to focus on eating well and taking plenty of exercise can also help prevent cancer.

You can read our information on causes of cancer and how you can help prevent it.

It is also important to attend any screening programmes that you are invited to.

    I hope this helps.
