Hi Emma-Luisa and thankyou for your post.
I am sorry to read about your mother's recent diagnosis of a fungating breast cancer. I can appreciate you want to do all you can to help her.
I can appreciate you want to know more about your mum’s prognosis as well but I’m afraid I can't tell you very much, as someone's outlook will depend on several features of their disease, and it is such a hard thing to predict.
A cancer prognosis is really a question best answered by your mum’s hospital team. This is because they are familiar with all her medical details and will know so much more about her individual situation.
Prognosis also depends on the grade and stage of breast cancer at time of diagnosis.
Biopsies and scans might be needed to determine the grade and stage. Once all biopsies and scans have been performed your mum’s case will be discussed in a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting where all the different doctors involved in her care discuss her case and work out a treatment plan. Your mum’s hospital specialist will then discuss the treatment plan with your mum at her hospital appointment.
