Catagory 2 Lobular Breast Cancer diagnosis

Hi all,

This is my first pot on behalf of my partner. She has just received a diagnosis of breast cancer.

One (of many) of her concerns is how the medication she will need to take will affect her. She's being sent a prescription for some medication to suppress her production of estrogen. I understand this medication will also affect her bone density. Will she need to have a blood test to see if she can take this OK?

She's panicking because she's only spoken with a nurse over the phone (last Wednesday) and has not actually seen anyone. Her worries are compounded by the fact that English is not her first language, and she only has a basic understanding. She is a refugee from the Ukrainian war. I'm trying to reassure her that things are happening, but she's panicking on a regular basis. Is there a cancer professional she can speak with in Russian or Ukrainian?

Looking forward to a reply.

regards.

  • Hello Kevinisin and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your partner. This must be a difficult time for you both.

We do have a translation service which we can organise if your partner wants to ring us or you could get in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support.

They offer a translation service and they also have cancer information translated in to Ukranian which you may find helpful to look at.

I do hope that this will offer some reassurance to your partner. I am sure once your partner knows what to expect things will become easier.

There are some tips on the Breast Cancer Now website about supporting your partner which you might find helpful.

Breast Cancer Now also have a service called Someone Like Me and it might be worth ringing them to see if there are other Ukrainians who are living in the UK who your partner could get in touch with.

I hope some of these links will be helpful. Do give the nurses a ring on the helpline if you would like to talk things through.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
