my husband chorodial melanoma is back he is having eye and tumour removed tomorrow 1st september then once healed hes having targetted radiation

what is involved in targetted radiation treatment and do we have to stay away from our grandchildren during the period hes having radiation

  • Hi there and thank you for your post

I am sorry to hear about your husbands situation. I really hope the surgery goes to plan today and that he has a good recovery.

There is more information about radiotherapy for eye cancer on the about cancer section of the website that will explain this treatment more.

The team involved in your husbands care will be able to tell you exactly the type and duration of radiotherapy he will need and how this may affect him. There are different types of radiotherapy and if he is to have external radiotherapy then it is perfectly safe for him to be around his grandchildren and anyone else whilst having his treatment. If however he needs internal radiotherapy he is likely to be kept in hospital during treatment so that the nurses can monitor the radiation levels. Whilst patients can have visitors at the time pregnant women and young children should avoid visiting.

Speak with your husbands team about the radiotherapy once he has recovered from his surgery to find out more.

    I hope this is helpful

    Best wishes to you both

    Naomi
