Husband with metastatic prostate cancer

Hi there, Mike ( 83 years)  was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer ( gleason 5+5=10) just under three years ago. He competed a six weekly chemotherapy course and radiotherapy. Subsequently his PSA dropped from 56.7 to ranges between 0.4.to 0.6. However his latest PSA spiked to 2.6. He was sent to have a bone and CT scan which showed slow progression cancer. However the CT scan showed abdominal lymphadenopathy which state progression of cancer. SInce his diagnosis Mike continues to play tennis twice a week and badminton once a week. He remains activeinbody and mind, sleeps well. He commenced Enzulatamide yesterday and it this latest development that we both need to understand please. How serious is the lymph nodes in the abdomen, will the Enzulatamide slow the progression of cancer cells. What does Mike need to do in order to give him the best chance of long term survival. He is up for this challenge however I am the one who is now in over drive worrying about him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

  • Hello and thanks for your further posting in ask the nurses,

Unfortunately, we get dozens of enquiries to respond to each day, so sometimes it takes the nurse team a couple of days to reply. I have just replied to your previous enquiry.

I can appreciate your concern and anxiety about your husband's situation. The treatment will be given with the aim of slowing down the cancer progression for as long as possible. Patient's respond differently, so everyone's experience of treatment will differ a little. Unfortunately, we can't comment on the lymph nodes, as we explained before, as we are not directly involved in his day to day clinical care. Do try to have a conversation with his specialist about your worries and the new treatment. If your husband has a hospital clinical specialist nurse (CNS), then they can help with your questions as well.

We have information about enzalutamide which may be of interest.

I hope that you get to find out more soon,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
