Awaiting appointment following 2 week referral made by GP

Hello, 

I saw my GP on Friday after monitoring an armpit lump for 2 weeks which did not go away. During the appointment she found 2 fixed lumps in my breast the same side of my body. I regularly check so this came out of the blue and I am now so worried. I am now awaiting an appointment but I haven’t slept and my stomach is in knots making me feel really sick. I don’t think it helps being a paeds oncology nurse and having some (although different) insight. With it being a bank holiday weekend since seeing my GP it feels like the longest wait ever. I am considering getting a private appointment to be seen quicker to get some answers, would this be beneficial or not help if the outcome is not good news? 

any advice would be great, thank you in advance! Helen

    It's difficult when we have some insight; our minds race ahead a bit with everything.

    Although the waiting is difficult, it may complicate things by going privately right now. I'm sure you will hear soon about your breast clinic appointment.

    Trying to keep yourself busy and distracted each day can be easier said than done, but it is often the best way to help time go quicker.

    Hopefully, you have someone you can confide in, and it might be good to mention it to your manager at work.

    Lumps can happen for different reasons in the breast, but it's finding out what is going on for you.

    Oh yes, my mind has gone to all sorts of places. It feels like the world is moving around me and carrying on and I’m in this static bubble waiting to see what is going on!  Is the likelihood of it being cancer increased with a lump being present in both my armpit and breast on the same side? I know you can’t say for sure but I feel it’s too coincidental to be on the same side. I’m 35 but have been in medically induced menopause for 5 years and hrt for most of that (in different forms).
