2ww suspected melanoma

I was referred under the 2ww for suspected melanoma on 8th of august. I contacted them on friday as i had not heard anything and the woman on the phone said the consultant has looked at the photos and a letter is on its way to me. I have not receieved the letter yet. My NHS app under waiting lists now says 'waiting for an appointment, when an appointment is available your provider will contact you.' Then underneath it says average wait time for treatment is 14 weeks. This seems like a long time if i have been referred under the 2ww. Does anybody know if this is a good sign that they think its something not as bad as melanoma or a bad sign and its just a very long wait? Thanks in advance.

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

It is difficult to say exactly what the information on the app means.

Waiting times are longer, but as your referral has been reviewed and triaged by a specialist, using their experience, they can then assess the level of need for review.

Once you have received your letter in the post, you will have a better idea of the waiting list. At that appointment, the doctor will assess and investigate further if needed.

Please take a look at this information from our website about melanoma referrals and the triaging, if helpful.

Take care, and I hope you hear more soon. If you would like to talk things through with the nurses on 0808 800 4040. Lines open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
