34 years later

I had breast cancer 34 years ago.

I had lumpectomy radiotherapy then 5years of tamoxifen.

Since then cancer free.

I had my first ever colestrol test which has come back 5.65

I now need blood tests.

I have read on the Internet that my high test could be because of my treatment for the cancer.

I am right in my thinking i would like to know as maybe I need to discuss this with my GP

  • Hello Shazzer123 and thanks for your post,

As it is a while since you have had treatment for breast cancer this may not be a cause of your high cholesterol but of course I can't be sure. Do mention it to your GP and get their opinion as to whether this could have a bearing on the result.

It is a good idea though to have some more blood tests to check whether the other tests are within a normal range.

The NHS has some general information on high cholesterol which you might find helpful to read.

Do give the nurses a ring on the helpline if you would like to talk things through.

the number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    all the best,

    Catherine
