Skin cancer

Is this skin cancer

  • Hi,

I'm not a nurse but I have been a melanoma patient for many years. As the nurses won't now be back until Monday, I wanted to reply to your post so that you don't feel it's been ignored.

I'm assuming you were going to try & post a photograph of the area that you are concerned about? I'm afraid the website Terms & Conditions doesn't allow photos to be uploaded. This is because no one, including the nurses here, can tell you if the area of concern is skin cancer. You need to see your GP so they can take a close look at the problem. They will then decide if it's an easily treatable skin condition or something that needs referring to Dermatology for further examination. So please see your GP who will hopefully put your mind at rest. Good luck,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Hi Seeme1811 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to read that you are worried about symptoms you are experiencing and can understand you wanting to find out more.

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. While it’s possible that your symptoms are not related to cancer, it’s best to be safe and have yourself checked.

Only a doctor can make a medical assessment so the best thing to do is to  see your GP.  They will assess you and decide whether you need to be referred to a Dermatologist.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
