Recently diagnosed

Hi there,

my brother and me are close but he is not one to give to much away. He  has recently been told he has stomach cancer spread to the liver which inoperable. After he spoke to consultant he has been told he will have to go to another hospital for what I guess would be for some treatment.

if anyone can advise on what would be the next procedure/treatment he will receive, what can be done, what happens, does treatment remove, is it curable, and any other information would be much appreciated.

thank you Lee

  • Hi there lee and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your brother, this must be a tough time for everyone.

Unfortunately without being involved in your brother's care or having access to his medical record we can't say what the next steps may be for him in terms of treatment.

There is information about stomach cancer and its commonly used treatments on our website, so do take a look. When a cancer has spread to another part of the body surgery isn't usually an option but a combination of treatments such as chemotherapy, targeted or immunotherapy alongside radiotherapy may be used.

I am sure the team looking after your brother will be aiming to give your brother the best possible outcome. It is however only the team involved who can say what they hope the treatment will achieve and what the future may look like.

I appreciate talking with your brother about his cancer may be difficult but if you have chance to try and find out more from him, then this is likely to be the best way of understanding the situation fully.

I hope this is helpful but do get back in touch if you have more questions.

Wishing your brother all the very best

    Take care

    Naomi
