My mum

Ten years ago my mum was diagnosed with skin cancer , a very small spot n her head . The specialist removed it but totally messed it up. She did receive an apology from the hospital . Twice more after very long waits they removed more and did skin grafts . She can’t get seen on a regular basis . She now has this huge scab that releases pus , and the smell is horrific !! It’s all over her head now and spreading . She went private as after ten years it should really of been sorted . They didn’t do anything and she was told at her local hospital they wouldn’t touch it . She’s lost her hair where this scab is , it’s thick , but looks soft , and it continues to leak . Please help my mum . She’s 89 now , please please advice

  • Hello Kat 27 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your mum. It is never easy seeing some one you care about having trouble with their health.

I would encourage your mum to speak to her GP about her wound.

We have a page on our website about looking after an ulcerating wound. There are different dressings that can be applied to help with the odour. Your mum may be able to see a tissue viability nurse that specialises in wounds that are difficult to treat. Your mum would need to be referred by her GP.

I do hope that your mum is able to get some help with her wound.

If you or your mum would like to ring and chat this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
