Radiotherapy NHL b cell

Radiotherapy dblcl nhl

Ive had my 6 rounds of chemotherapy 3 weekly cycles and now post pet scan they say I need radiotherapy. Surprised hasn't all gone but hey ho.

I realise that at my oncology appointment they will tell me more, I'm impatient of course

I got married at the weekend and I'm hoping to return to work at end of September. My Haem CNS laughed when I told her my plan. Optimistic and glass half full I was.

Is radiotherapy done for example every day for a week? Short sharp dose.?

Or is it like chemotherapy, done over many weeks and months?

I know nobody can give me specifics here. Just wanted some general info so I can my head around this new situation and treatment.

Thanks in advance

  • Hello and thank you for your post

I'm sorry to read about your situation. It's understandable to feel impatient and a bit unsettled right now.

It's not uncommon to have radiotherapy after chemotherapy for Diffuse large B- cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Your doctors want to ensure that that any microscopic disease is dealt with. Before you start radiotherapy you will have a radiotherapy planning appointment. The radiotherapy team work out the dose of radiotherapy you need and exactly where you need it.

Radiotherapy is usually given daily Monday to Friday often over a couple of weeks or more. When you see your oncology team, they'll tell you how many sessions you will need and what to expect. Each radiotherapy session only takes a few minutes. The treatment is targeted to one area so side effects are more local and generally milder than chemotherapy. although fatigue is quite common.

I hope this is of some use and congratulations on your recent wedding. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
