Struggling coming up to one year cancer free

Hello, I was diagnosed with NH

Diffuse large B cell lymphoma of the thyroid gland with bulky disease in the mediastinum and upper airway compromise. And completed my 6th round of Pola-R-CHP Oct 2024. I have struggled since finishing chemo I went into early menopause and I am now on HRT, I also believe I have Polymyalgia now and have just finished long term steroids whilst waiting on a rheumatologist apt. I am constantly tired breathless and in pain, I feel worse now than I did whilst I had cancer and was going through chemotherapy. I have had a chest Xray which has come back normal bloods all satisfactory but I feel like I am wasting away I should be feeling amazing and enjoying life but I am finding it really hard with the after effects.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am very sorry to hear about your previous cancer treatment and the symptoms you have been experiencing since. It sounds like this is a very difficult time for you and I hope you have some support around you at his time.

From what you have said it seems you have started on some HRT, have had a couple of tests to find out more and are now waiting a rheumatology appointment, which is all positive. However it is important to go back and let your doctor or nurse know about any persisting or worsening symptoms you are facing so they can re-evaluate the situation to help best manage and support you through this.

Unfortunately as you well know cancer treatments can cause side effects that can be very debilitating so finding ways to best manage this is so important.

I hope you know more soon and can find some strategies to help you.

Do remember you can call us on 0808 800 4040 weekdays 9-5 if you would like to talk things through over the phone or if you prefer to just chat on here, that is fine too.

Take care and I really do hope you start to feel better soon.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
