2 week urgent referral colonoscopy

Hi, I'm extremely worried & anxious while awaiting a date for a colonoscopy. I have a range of symptoms, some that have been on going for a few years and some more recent. Had a FIT test result of 15, fecal calprotectin is in normal range and CRP blood result is 4mg/L. I can't get into see the doctor yet and I'm worried about my most recent result today which is the CRP blood result. Given my other test results I dont know if this is a good result or raised & if so does my chances of this being cancer increase? I'm a single mum to 3 children so I can't stop worrying & thinking the worst. I also have vitamin D deficiency, slightly low inorganic phosphate levels (no idea what this means) I've had no weight loss & im not anemic which I've been told is a positive sign.

Kind regards

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are feeling worried and can appreciate waiting to have a colonoscopy and waiting for results is very stressful, and our minds often imagine the worst possible scenario.

Being on the cancer pathway doesn't always mean a cancer diagnosis. In fact, the majority of people who are referred urgently do not have cancer. It just means that the doctors wants to be thorough and not delay anything if further tests are needed.

Your CRP levels are within the normal range.

I know it's easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. Also try and focus on what you can control right now by eating a good diet, getting enough rest, and doing some gentle activities that you enjoy,

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
