Papillon treatment and ulcers

Hi I recently had papillon treatment in April/May this year and have just finished the last course of chemo for bowel cancer (cancer is low down). A week ago. The ulcer from the papillon treatment has become inflamed and along with cuts (due to thinning of the skin caused but creams etc) and piles, there is slight bleeding which is causing me so much pain. I am taking paracetamol and ibuprofen but am in agony when I go to the loo - is there anything I can do to ease the pain ? Thank you lisa

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I am sorry to hear about your discomfort. Your GP may be able to prescribe suppositories that may soothe, or a steroid cream to apply there, to help with the healing.

There may be a gel that contains a small amount of local anaesthetic that might help numb the area. This is probably only available via a doctor's prescription.

Some products available over the counter for piles may help, you could also seek advice from a pharmacist. Having regular shallow baths with tepid water may help. Some people use a small amount of dead sea salts to soothe skin. Sitting on a cold pack wrapped in a hand towel for a short period may help.

I hope that this improves for you soon,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
