Secondary liver cancer

My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer last year and had tumour removed then chemotherapy for secondary on liver. This year restarted chemotherapy but after two rounds the oncologist agreed to stop as very poorly. He is 83 years old. We are waiting results for CT scan hopefully in next couple of weeks but he is looking very yellow and itching all over body. Should I chase up appointment with oncologist. He has 8 tumours in the liver that cannot be operated on. I’ve been using Aloe Vera to help with the skin irritation. Thank you

PS we did visit GP last week who prescribed a lotion for skin but gave no relief whereas Aloe Vera does.

  • Hi BJoy and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn of your husband’s metastatic bowel cancer diagnosis and that he is having symptoms that are causing concern. This must be a worrying time.

Unfortunately yellowing and itching of the skin can be a sign of jaundice which is common with liver metastases. I would advise that you call his oncologist or nurse specialist to inform them of his new symptoms. If they are concerned they can bring his appointment forward.

In the meantime you may find it helpful to read our webpages on dealing with itching.

I hope you get an appointment soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

     Kind regards

    Tina
