Inflammatory breast cancer

I think I have inflammatory breast cancer. It started quite recently and now I'm worried it's spreading. I saw my GP yesterday morning and she referred me to one of the nurses.

I have an appointment on Tuesday afternoon with the nurse.

But today the dimpling has spread on my breast also a red rash and some petechiae just above my breast trailing over my left shoulder. I'm worried that it's IBC and by the time Tuesday comes it will have spread even more. Could anyone suggest what I should do. I did ring the doctors surgery but there was no one to speak to and no appointments left.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry we didn't get to reply to you until now. We are closed over the weekend and are working through all the postings.

You mention you are worried about inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) . It can be a worry to notice breast changes but there can be many reasons for this to happen, other than cancer, and IBC is a rare type of breast cancer.

I see that you are going to see a nurse this afternoon. They will assess you and advise you further. They may refer you to the breast clinic for further assessment. The majority of people referred to the breast clinic do not have breast cancer. The charity Breast Cancer Now has information on what to expect at your breast clinic appointment.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
