Enlarged prostate

Im due to commence a four week course of external beam radiation for my prostate cancer and am worried that the effectiveness of this treatment may be compromised as my prostate is mega large according to the consultant. I am also receiving hormone therapy

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Having a larger prostate doesn't mean that your radiotherapy won't work. It can still be very effective. This is something your radiotherapy team will have already taken into account when planning your treatment. Radiotherapy is very precise. Your team will have tailored your treatment to suit the exact size and shape of your prostate, using detailed scans to guide where the radiation goes. The aim is to target the cancer as accurately as possible while protecting the healthy tissue around it

We have information on radiotherapy for prostate cancer on our website that you may find useful.

Good luck with your treatment and you are welcome to give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
