Cancer is a metabolic problem?

I had breast cancer 7yrs ago and I had chemotherapy and radiotherapy as part of my treatment and I'm happy to say I'm a survivor, so far *touch wood*. I'm always interested in new research and that coupled with my mum having been on the keto diet for about 2yrs now I was wondering if anyone had seen the video of a cancer doctor speaking on a diary of a CEO. I know that the keto diet isn't suitable for me as I have Gilbert syndrome which makes the keto diet difficult. But I found the research interesting regarding the body's ketone production coupled with the use of a hyperbolic chamber and the claim that cancer is a metabolic problem. I would like to know if you have any thoughts on this. Thanks

  • Hi Misschiefkitty, and thank you for your post.

I am delighted to learn that you have not experienced any symptoms since your cancer treatment seven years ago.

You might find our webpage on alternative cancer diets interesting to read.

Cancer Research UK endorses the concept of maintaining a well-balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle to help sustain good health.

I wish you continued good health going forward.

    Kind regards

    Tina

  • It’s complicated - from the research I’ve read, there are often genetic and metabolic factors at play.

For example, some of the innovative early diagnosis tools being piloted rely on bio-indicators produced as a result of metabolic changes caused by early stage cancers.

Some cancers are associated with specific mutated genes.

My gut feeling is that, after lots of research and scientific debate, a consensus will be reached that it’s a bit of both!

  • I'm not a nurse and certainly no expert and I haven't seen the video but I'd be wary of anything on YouTube unless it has a peer reviewed study linked below. I'd also be wary if they just talked about cancer in general as there are many different types of cancer.

  • I just googled and it seems like those claims are highly debated. The BBC and the Guardian have accused those videos of promoting misinformation. Again, I have no expertise so can't really judge but it sounds like the information discussed was fringe stuff and not scientific consensus.
