None of my results are being given to me and I just had my appointment cancelled and rescheduled. I can't sleep or stop thinking about it

I had a breast biopsy over 5 weeks ago they have all the results now including the MRI but canceled my appointment and rescheduled for another week. I have called I have visited and the breast nurses keep saying they can’t give me any information until my appointment with the consultant, I asked if another doctor could call me they said no. I wrote a request for my medical records but that can take two months. I came back to the UK after 35 years living n the US as a nurse, there I would be treated differently and respected as a medical professional

. I want my results and the not being kept informed and treated like I am a child is worse than the diagnosis. I have lost faith in this system and I am thinking of returning to America without my husband because I know they would give me the information if I asked and it would be done as soon as they were available. I have insurance there from the government from September 1st and would probably get the treatment the same time as I will here at the rate they are moving. This is not about lack of resources or anything like that it is just rules and bureaucracy.

I can’t sleep or stop thinking about it I was fine until yesterday when they canceled my appointment for Monday and refused to give me my results.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I am sorry to hear of your current situation, and can fully understand your frustration. Unfortunately, it seems that not everyone has a positive experience of the NHS cancer referral pathway process. At Cancer Research UK, we encourage patient involvement, and one can join the cancer insight panels to help shape our work, as a charity, in trying to improve the cancer patient experience. You can contact the PALS officer (patient advice and liaison service) at your NHS Trust, with your concerns and feedback. The NHS has a section on locating your nearest PALS service. You can also write directly to the hospital Chief Executive, who will respond. It is difficult waiting for results. I hope you have the support of friends and family at this time.

I hope that your healthcare experience improves for you moving forward.

    Wishing you the best,

    Vanda
