  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I can understand how unsettling waiting for tests can be. Try not to overthink it for now. There are other reasons why people can complain of bowel symptoms other then cancer so try to take one step at a time.

The FIT test is not a test for cancer but indicates that there is blood in the stools that need further investigations.

Polyps (not cancerous) can occur in the bowel and they can bleed.

When you have the colonoscopy the doctor will have a good look at the bowel and be able to take some biopsies if there is an area that needs to be investigated.

Any biopsies that are taken are sent to a pathologist where the doctor will look at the cells under a microscope.

I do hope all will be well.

You are welcome to give the nurses a ring on the helpline if you would like to talk things through. The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
