after kidney cancer

Hi, I had a partial nephrectomy 5 months ago for renal cell carcinoma.

I was told the cancer was low grade and had not spread , wich is fantastic.

Recovery was good, iv had some blood pressure issues that I had previously,  but apart from that everything has healed great.

Up to now since healing I have had no pain, but a couple of weeks ago I started to get intermittent spasms in my side. Now its a pain , as if something is pushing under my rib and waist. It is very uncomfortable

Is this just part of the healing still do you think or is it something I should be concerned about? .

I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Many Thanks.

  • Hello sha1 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the pain you are experiencing. This may well be part of the healing process and can be a result of damaged nerves, inflammation and scarring. It may also be because you may have increased your activities and you are generally more active.

I would however speak to the hospital to check that this is the case. Your specialist may want to examine you or bring a follow-up appointment forward. They will also be able to suggest some appropriate pain killers.

If an appointment is not happening in the next week or so then do make an appointment with your GP.

I do hope that you manage to speak to someone soon.

If you would like to ring and chat this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
