Irregular bleeding on hrt

  1. I went to see my gp as I have been on hrt for 10 months and had started having irregular bleeding after no period for years. I was fast tracked and had an internal scan which showed a uterus thickening and my left ovary wasn’t visible. I had a biopsy on the 10th of July and not had any results. I know I am probably being a bit over anxious but my bleeding is getting worse and just wondering if anyone has had the same problems
  • Are you up to date with your pap smears?

  • Yes  Pap smears up to date. I am waiting on an appointment for a camera scan just a bit anxious of not knowing how long it’s going to be xx

  • Hi Lynlyn and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I can understand how unsettling this may be waiting to hear your results.

The time it takes to receive test results can vary between different NHS Trusts due to various factors. In most cases, it takes between two to three weeks to receive results, but some people have experienced longer waits.

Shortages of staff who interpret results can also contribute to delays.

Most hospital specialists only have one clinic per week, so you will most likely be scheduled for the next clinic after the histopathologist examines the biopsy.

Most consultants opt for face-to-face communication, regardless of whether the news is good or bad, because you may have a benign condition that may require treatment; such as fibroids or polyps.

Other causes of a thickened womb lining are HRT, obesity and hormone conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome.

You might find it helpful to call your hospital specialists secretary to enquire about the duration of your wait.

If you feel that your bleeding is becoming worse maybe you can speak to your GP to be reassessed.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
