“Highly suspected tumour”

My husband has just had a phone call to say “highly suspected tumour” in his testical after having 2 scans. Is it appropriate for consultants to tell you this over the phone? also does this mean it is cancer? They haven’t been very clear only that he now needs bloods a CT scan and an operation

can this be benign? I asked this the other day and the Dr said it can’t be benign but everything I have read states it can

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your husband's situation and can appreciate what a worrying time this is for you both.

Doctors often telephone their patients to give them results especially if further tests are needed quite soon. A highly suspected tumour usually means that the doctors suspect it is cancer, but they can't say for sure until after surgery and tests.

Although most testicular lumps are cancerous, some can be benign ( non cancerous). The doctor telling you both that he doesn't think it's benign may be based on the recent scan.

We have some information on our website on the possible tests for testicular cancer. We also have some further information on treatment for testicular cancer.

I hope you both know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
