Mole gone strange

I have a mole on my arm.  It started to go crusty and bled a little then looked like it was healing.  Now it is raised a bit like a spot, very pink, unlike the original brown mole, it has a little white dot in the middle, again like a spot but not, and it’s tender-ish and a bit itchy.  I’ve made an appointment with the GP but it’s not for about three weeks.  How worried should I be?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Moles are common and the majority are harmless. Some can change over time but this doesn't mean it's something to be overly worried about. However, it's important that anything that looks different is checked out to be on the safe side. GP's are very used to assessing moles and if they suspect something isn't right they will refer on to the dermatologist ( skin specialist) for further assessment.

The NHS website has some information on getting your Information on getting your moles checked by your GP.

I hope you know more about your situation and that everything turns out to be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
