Waiting for hysterectomy

Hi,

i was diagnosed with stage 1 1a grade 2 womb cancer last week and the first symptoms of bleeding started end of April this year. I’ve been told I’m not having the hysterectomy until the 14 August and I’m so worried this is giving it time to spread.

  • Hi Sharontrace and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with womb cancer. This must be a difficult time for you.

I can understand how unsettling this must be waiting to have surgery.

Most people are concerned that their cancer will spread while they are waiting. While no one can give an absolute assurance that your cancer will not get worse during the wait we do know that most cancers grow slowly, so waiting a few weeks is unlikely to affect the overall situation.  However, waiting any length of time when you are worried is difficult.

People often experience a whole range of emotions when waiting for their treatment to start. We know that talking can often relieve some of the distress and anxiety. There's some useful advice about talking therapies and how to access them on the NHS website. Also  Anxiety UK has a good website with helpful tips on how to deal with anxiety in these situations.

I hope this information helps and that you make a full recovery from your surgery when it eventually takes place.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

     Kind regards

    Tina

  • Your cancer is quite low grade and low stage. I shouldn't worry unduly as it is all contained within the womb and not spread. However be sure to get your surgery as soon as offered.

  • Hi, I have had the hysterectomy and now waiting for the pathology results. Thank you for your reply.

  • I'm glad your surgery is over. Wishing you all the very best.
