Pre diagnosis possibility.

Hi,

I'm very worried that I may have lichen sclerosus of the anus.  My gp has prescribed a strong steroid cream to apply to the area. I have been referred to a dermatologist but not an urgent request. I notice the area is quit thick, white in colour. Understandable I'm worried it is cancer. Do you have any advice or is there a support group or chat room available.

Thank you

Teena

  • Hi there Teena and thank you for your post

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you are experiencing and the concerns you have about this being lichen sclerosis.

If the symptoms are ongoing or the steroid cream not helping do let your doctor know so they can reassess you. If you know the hospital department you have been referred to you can call them to ask how long the wait time may be.

In the meantime you may like to take a look at the lichen sclerosis guide produced earlier this year by the university of Nottingham. The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) also have a link to the lichen sclerosis network you may also wish to reach out to for advice and support.

I hope this is helpful and that you find out more about your situation so you can get the most appropriate treatment.

    All the best

    Naomi
