My waiting list in the NHS app changed to medical oncology pathway?

Hi,

I was referred to have a pretty big fibroadenoma removed (9cm) a month or two ago and when I was referred, in my nhs app under waiting lists, it said breast surgery. My case was discussed in a multidisciplinary meeting and they decided I needed another biopsy to ensure it was a fibroadenoma and rule out phyllodes. I had the biopsy done and then 5days later my waiting list updated and now says medical oncology pathway. What could this mean? My next appointment is in 10days, I’m assuming this is to receive my results and go over surgical plan. But I am confused as to why it has changed to oncology pathway. I’ve had the mass for years so I can’t imagine it would be malignant. Would it still say medical oncology pathway if it’s were a fibroadenoma or a benign phyllodes?

  • Hello Lola. and thank you for posting.

Unfortunately, as we are not part of your local hospital team, I cannot say exactly why this has happened on the app.

It may be that it is the medical team that deals with all biopsy follow-ups.

I am sorry, we are unable to help more.

Take care and if you would like to speak to the nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040, lines are open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
