Husband diagnosed with T2 Bladder Cancer, but not been offered immunotherapy

My husband has been diagnosed with T2 bladder cancer and am wondering why he has not been offered immunotherapy treatment.  Can anyone help please.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

We have information about immunotherapy as a bladder cancer treatment on our website.

Immunotherapy has specific roles in bladder cancer treatment. It can be given after surgery.

    And,

    • straight after chemotherapy – this is sometimes called maintenance treatment
    • as your first treatment if you can’t have chemotherapy and your cancer has high levels of PD-L1
    • as your second treatment, if you’ve had chemotherapy in the past (even if you don't have high levels of PD-L1)

Treatments for bladder cancer include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. The hospital team will base the treatment on the patient's individual situation.

I hope that this helps, and that you get to find out more from his team soon.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
