Bleeding following womb biopsy one week on

I had a womb biopsy 8 days ago but am bleeding quite a lot and also have bad pains both sides of my pelvis , I am taking provara 10mg 3 times a day but the bleeding is still constant and literally pouring out of me. I would like to know if this is normal and will eventually stop or should I see someone about it. Which then leads me to the next question which is who would I go to? My gp or contact the hospital consultant  . I am waiting for a hysteroscopy appointment and understood the provara tablets were meant to stop me bleeding for 3 weeks before bringing in a bleed and then repeating no bleed for 3 wk, I am concerned of the pains cos I don’t usually get period pain and this is stabbing and burning pain both on my right and left side. At the moment bleeding is like wine with only bits of clots and I’m only using sanitary towels as suggested to avoid infection. Since the biopsy I have been getting hot flashes which I assumed is perimenopause but also concerned is it possible that something isn’t quite right .

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I am sorry to learn that you are having bleeding after biopsy. This can happen, and sometimes is a tiny bleeding point that is responsible.

Do contact the hospital team first, or ring NHS 111 for advice. Your GP is likely to refer you back to the hospital team.

Sometimes oral medication can be prescribed to slow and stop the bleeding.

I hope that you manage to get this sorted out soon,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
