Multiple myeloma

  1. I am currently waiting for a cancer diagnosis after 2 bone marrow biopsies. What is the prognosis for this cancer type?
  2. What type of treatment is available?
  3. I have been told so far I have metastasis in the spine from a potential tumour in the iliac bone.
  4. Will I need radiotherapy and chemotherapy?
  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I can appreciate that you want to know more. Unfortunately, we can't give you a precise medical opinion on your situation. Your hospital team are best placed to give you specific information, as they are providing your direct clinical care. Someone's overall outlook will depend on various factors, such as their general health, age, and response to any treatments given. There are various treatments available. Treatments are based on the stage (extent) of the cancer. Radiotherapy is often used to treat cancers affecting the bones and spine.

The charity Myeloma UK has website information, and also booklets available on request, on diagnosis and treatments for myeloma There is also usually a hospital clinical nurse specialist (CNS), that work in the haematology team at your hospital, to provide information and support to patients.

    I hope that this helps,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
