LLETZ- What’s next?

Hi, I LLETZ done today after suspected glandular neoplasm on smear results (hated every second and cried like a baby, ended up that anxious they had to give me gas and air )
Dr confirmed she could see precancerous cells and has sent off for a biopsy- what’s next? Should I be preparing for the worst, I’ve made myself sick I’m so terrified. Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I can appreciate your concern. Biopsies are routinely taken to check for any abnormal cells remaining after a LLETZ procedure. This means that sometimes further treatments are needed to remove all the abnormal cells. This can mean having a further LLETZ, or a cone biopsy done. Sometimes other surgery is necessary if there are early cancer changes, but this is not common. Your hospital colposcopy gynaecology team will discuss more with you once they have the results back and have a treatment plan.

We have information about abnormal cervical cells treatments on our website

I hope things go well moving forward,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
