Radial Scar

I had a biopsy on an incidental lump they found when I had a mammogram and ultrasound. It was given a 50/50 chance of cancer.

The results have come back and I have a radial scar with no atipia. It needs to be removed by Vacuum assisted excision. It's rated at B3. It needs to be taken out in 2-3 weeks and checked to see if they get any more information

Does this still mean it could be cancer?

Thank you

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

The B3 biopsy result is unclear whether the cells are abnormal or uncertain, but are probably benign. However, further investigation is needed, such as a vacuum-assisted biopsy (where a bigger sample is removed to clarify the situation). There is more information about this on the Breast Cancer Now website.

Having this uncertainty must be difficult, but hopefully the results of your next biopsy will confirm that there isn't any cancer.

In the meantime, please feel free to get back to us. If you would like to talk things through with our nurses on the helpline, we are available from 9am -5pm Monday to Friday freephone 0808 800 4040

    Take care,

    Jemma
