I’m worried about my mom

My mom lives in Poland and has been diagnosed with breast cancer, they found some dark tissue on her lungs too. They can’t get to it for a biopsy to check if it’s cancer but have done PET tests and are pretty sure it is. They want to do radiotherapy or surgery but she is 76 and dosnt want surgery.
she has watched her sister 71 be diagnosed with lung cancer, have surgery and chemo, followed by radiotherapy and seen her only deteriorating.
I want to bring her her to the uk. She has no immediate family to help her.  It she’s scared to come to the uk and have to go through all the tests again. And be a burden to us.

  • Hi there and thanks for getting in touch

I am sorry to hear about your mom's situation and appreciate what a difficult time this must be for you both.

Whilst I can understand you wanting to bring your mum over here for treatment I'm afraid this isn't always very easy to do, especially when they aren't residents of the UK. This is because patients need to reside permanently in the UK in order to be eligible for NHS treatment. Otherwise patients need to pay for their treatments and this can be very expensive.

You can read more about cancer treatment for overseas visitors on the website, that may be helpful to read and understand things a little more clearly.

I hope this is helpful but do get back if you have more questions. If you prefer to speak over the phone our number is 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
