Stoma reversal reversal

Good afternoon, I had my stoma reversal in March 24 after stage 3 BC. I have since been diagnosed with severe LARS. I am 41 years old and up until then had a successful career in the army. I have had very erratic bowels since and often have difficulties making it to the loo in time. I want my stoma back. I could go out and eat a meal without having the anxiety of loos on the way home. I may not be able to stay in the army with a stoma but I’m at the stage now where life is more important than a job. It’s a major lifestyle change and I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you seem to have been left with LARS ( Low Anterior Resection Syndrome) as explained on Bowel Cancer UK website following a stoma reversal procedure. This is understandably a difficult time for you and I appreciate how this must be impacting your everyday life.

Unfortunately no one here can say whether it is possible to have the stoma reinstated but you do need to discuss the issues you have with your doctor so they can best manage and support you at this time.

There are various strategies that people can try and manage the symptoms caused by LARS. Please do speak with your team about what help is available to retrain and better control your bowel function through diet, muscle exercises and medication.

Bladder and Bowel UK also have some information about the treatment and management of LARS. That may be useful to you.

I hope you are able to speak with someone soon to be able to decide the best next steps for you.

    Take care

    Naomi
